John Baker

Security Advisor

John Baker is a former Los Angeles police sergeant and Army Reserve officer with over 35 years of experience in law enforcement and security. He has provided security design and implementation guidance for a number of high profile clients, handling both government and commercial accounts. John left the Military Reserves as a liaison for the Israeli National Security and he has worked with a number of established private entities, including Lucent Technology, Avaya, Agilent, General Mills, Kaiser Hospitals, and Raytheon. In addition to holding a Master’s degree in Business Administration, John is a graduate of the Los Angeles Sheriff Training Academy, Military War College and Anti-Terrorism Training.

In the years following his retirement from law enforcement, John relocated to Colorado and established an active role within his new community. John currently runs his own security firm through which he continues to utilize decades of expertise in surveillance and electronic security systems. He also works with charitable organizations such as the Make a Wish Foundation and Special Olympics. John has worked closely with the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division and lectures frequently on topics of local and national interest, including Colorado’s Amendment 64, domestic terrorism, and individual rights. John provides DRC with valuable insight from both a law enforcement and high value asset security perspective informing our anti-diversion and security plans.

As a retired Sergeant of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, John has witnessed the negative impact of drug-related arrests and incarceration first hand. In an effort to inform effective drug policy, John holds an active role with Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, an organization of former and current law enforcement officers working to develop and support effective drug regulations in place of prohibition. As a L.E.A.P. speaker and trusted authority on drug policy and law enforcement reform, John has lectured on topics relevant to harm reduction, public health and safety interventions.
